The Canton of Basingestoches asks for you to join us at our Feast of Saint Sylvester A&S Baronial Championship Saturday January 13, 2018 from 1:00 PM till the food is gone!
It is time once again to celebrate the passing of another year amongst friends with food, drink and games! Our site is a lovely Tudor style hall that will welcome you in and invite you to relax as you enjoy the games that will begin at 1:00 PM. Bring your favorite game or play some of the classics while the fireplace warms you. The Cock & Bull Tavern will be open with snacks and conversation when the site opens.
From 1:00 – 4:30 PM there will be the presentation and voting on the Endewearde Barionial A&S championship on the stage. All artisans are encouraged to enter their pieces including our busy brewers guild.
At 3:30 PM there will be a YOUTH CHALLENGE! We invite any under 21 to make a nonalcoholic cordial for a round-table discussion. A great family activity, this is to help future brewers learn how to discuss and panel a brew.
At 5:30 PM the feast will be served and any who wish to provide entertainment are encouraged to do so. Lady Vivien Valois is our wonderfull Feastocrat this year following up on her great dayboards. BARONIAL ARTS & SCIENCES CHAMPIONSHIP
Their Excellencies Baron Ané du Vey and Baroness Sylvia du Vey, and our first Baronial Arts and Sciences Champion, Hrefna of Wyndriche, are excited to announce the second Baronial Arts and Sciences Championship of Endewearde. All artisans of Endewearde, including youth, are invited to enter their best works for the title of Arts and Sciences Champion. The Championship will be held on Saturday January 13th, 2018 at the Feast of Saint Sylvester in the Canton of Basingestoches.
The championship will be judged as a body of work. Entrants shall enter a minimum of two items with a maximum of five. Each item should have been made within three years of the competition, and may not have been entered into any previous championship. The items can be from a single discipline or from multiple disciplines. The winner of the competition is the Barony of Endewearde’s Champion of Arts and Sciences.
Entrants will have the following
- Approx. 3 ft of table space.
- Access to electrical as requested in pre-registration.
- Floor space as requested in pre-registration.
- White table cloths for table cover are being supplied. If you wish a second covering please bring one.
Rules
- All entries must be pre-registered.
- Absentee entries will not be accepted.
- Each entrant is responsible for their entry and making sure that it is placed on the correct table.
- Documentation is highly encouraged.
Judging
Judging will be done by the populace in the first round, using appropriate rubrics for each entry.
The second round will be face-to-face individual interviews between the top three entries and their Excellencies, Baron Ané du Vey and Baroness Sylvia du Vey. Entrants may not judge in the competition.
Entries shall be judged on their own merit and not compared to any entries by other entrants.
If judges have a question about an entry, it is their prerogative to send for the entrant to ask questions.
The entrant will be scored based on the entirety of the works entered. Items will not be individually scored. There will be alternate score sheets for performance, written works, brewing/cooking and general entries. The body of work will be averaged from the alternate forms.
Performing entries are limited to 15 minutes, including introduction and will be performed in front of the current Champions and the Baron and Baroness.
There will be two rounds
First Round: The first round of judging will be performed by the populace. All of the rubrics have been published for attendees to view and understand before the championship (See score sheets below). Meisterin Agatha Wanderer and Hrefna Hrodbjortsdottir will also hold very brief workshops on the day of the championship to educate attendees about how to use rubrics appropriately. The populace will be required to understand and use the rubrics in the judging of each artisan’s work. Each populace judge should expect to spend approximately 2-5 minutes per artisan. Positive constructive comments are highly encouraged. Negative comments will not be acceptable.
Second Round: The top three entries will be announced and will be interviewed face to face with the Baron and Baroness, who will give their decision for the next Arts and Sciences Champion in court.. Approximately 5 minutes will be allotted for each of the top three entrants.
Eligibility: All championship entrants must physically live within the boundaries of Endewearde in order to be eligible for a championship. Artisans who are not residents of Endewearde may certainly display their arts, but may not compete.
Additional Information
All levels of entrants are encouraged, however the competition is designed to acknowledge the best artisans in the Barony. We encourage all artisans of the Barony to enter. As this is a competition, the focus will be on the judging of the entries. Artisans and populace will not be allowed to be present with their displays during the first round of judging.
There will be time before and after judging for artisans and populace to view and appreciate the entries. There will also be a separate display area set up for those who would like to display their work but not enter the competition.
For entrants requiring cooking / kitchen access: it will be limited, but available. Please contact for further information and to have a spot reserved.

DIRECTIONS TO EVENT SITE
The event site is The Neighborhood House, 1 Kimball Terrance Lane, Northeast Harbor, Maine.
From Ellsworth Me. take route 3 to Mount Desert Island. At the head of the Island bear right onto rt 102. At the next traffic light in Somesville (Just past the Shell station) take a left. Stay on that road until you enter Northeast Harbor. In Northeast Harbor bear left onto main street. At the end of Main street is the Neighborhood house. Parking is on the streets plus the medical center to the right.
REGISTRATION FEES
Updated: 11/09/2017 There has been a change in the age grouping for feast payments. A site fee has also been added for those who are not taking part in the evening feast.
- Site fees are $10 all ages over 5.
- Feast fees are $15 adults (ages 13+), $3 children (0-12).
- There is a $5 discount for members on the site fee.

GUEST MINORS REQUIRED PAPERWORK
If you are planning to bring a Youth Minor (anyone under the age of 18) to a Society for Creative Anachronism event for whom you are not their parent or legal guardian, then you must obtain the proper forms and signatures. This policy applies to relatives of the guest minor as well (siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins).
You can read Endewearde’s FAQ for Guest Minors so you can plan to obtain the necessary forms, signatures and notary public services before the youth guest minor accompanies you to an event.
